AbegailBongalonta
Oil, pigment and light. Work rooted in Filipino memory — the loom, the terrace, the sun with eight rays — carried into a contemporary hand. The canvas leads; the camera keeps notes.
Paintings
The core of the practice — oil, acrylic and fiber on canvas. Ancestral pattern re-read at contemporary scale.
Photography
Field notes in light — streets, shorelines and skies that later become pigment.
Between the loom and the lens
Abegail Bongalonta paints from a simple conviction: that the patterns our grandmothers wove were already abstract art. Her canvases borrow the logic of inabel weaving, the stepped light of the rice terraces, and the eight-rayed sun — not as decoration, but as structure.
Photography came second and stayed. It is how she gathers: dawn bancas, market color, a sky over Mayon that behaves like wet paint. Those frames return, months later, as underpainting.
She works from a studio in Naga City and exhibits across Bicol and Metro Manila.
